The Watchman's Duty

"And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, son of man,
speak to the sons of your people & say to them,
If I bring a sword upon a land,
& the people of the land take one man from among them & make him their watchman,
& he sees the sword coming upon the land & blows on the trumpet & warns the people,

then he who hears the sound of the trumpet & does not take warning,
& a sword comes and takes him away,
his blood will be on his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet
but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself.
But had he taken warning, he would have delivered his life.

But if the watchman sees the sword coming & does not blow the trumpet
& the people are not warned,
& a sword comes & takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity;
but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.
Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel;
so you will hear a message from MY mouth & give them warning from ME.

EZEKIEL 33

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day
nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Be dressed ready for service &
keep your lamps burning,
like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes & knocks they can immediately open the door for him.
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes.
I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve,
will have them recline at the table
& will come & wait on them.
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second
or third watch of the night.
But understand this: If the owner of the house
had known at what hour the thief was coming,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be ready, because the
SON of MAN
will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
